One Year Of Gold: 15th August Marks First Anniversary Of The Sports Based Iconic Movie Starring Akshay Kumar

A classic blend of sports and patriotism is what Gold is all about! This Independence Day Akshay Kumar starrer movie celebrates its first anniversary. The movie based in the era of 1936 - 1948 is an account of India’s breakthrough in its national sports hockey since its first independence. Redirected by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner. It stars an ensemble cast with powerhouse Akshay KumarMouni RoyKunal KapoorVineet Kumar SinghAmit Sadh, and Sunny Kaushal.

The reason behind its phenomenal success is the strong story plot beautifully woven into tightly knit script with no loose ends. Releasing it on Independence Day was a great treat for Indians and movie goers alike. Akshay Kumar who portrays the role of the team’s joint manager ‘Tapan Das’ has a tough time taking Indian hockey team from the clutches of British and play for its own motherland. After long struggle and tragedies the team finally plays for India ad wins the Gold medal in 1948.

Though there were few controversies surrounding the movie, one such controversy was there were few fictional elements which were not true. Before Gold could even get to the theatres, director Reema Kagti, Akshay Kumar and pretty much the entire team of the film clarified that the film was a heavily fictionalized version of the actual events.

But these didn’t affect the box office figure neither audience’s reaction. It was Bollywood’s one of the best movies of all time.  We wish that we get to see more of such phenomenal films in the coming year.
